Severe weather in Gwynedd – Update 11.30pm Thursday 22nd November.

Posted

At this time the A55 still remains closed in both directions between Junction 11 at Bangor and Junction 12 Tal y Bont whilst all other primary and secondary routes are open and passable with care.

Diversions have been set in place westbound off the A55 at Black Cat Roundabout, Llandudno Junction via the A5 to Bangor and likewise east bound from Bangor.  Traffic is flowing along this route and so the Multi Agency Team established in response to the severe weather in Gwynedd have "stood down" volunteers at Bangor , Llandudno Junction and Caernarfon Leisure Centres.  For the time the centres were open at Caernarfon and Llandudno Junction no one approached them in need of assistance however six people from the Greater Manchester area attended Bangor where overnight accommodation has been arranged for them.

Water has now been cleared from the A55 at Bangor however a great deal of debris and mud requires clearing from the road before it is safe for traffic. This work involves a number of agencies and specialist equipment all of which required transporting to the affected area through a heavily congested traffic however work is now well underway and it remains a priority of all agencies to reopen the road as quickly and as safely as possible.

North Wales Police are advising motorists to keep off the roads unless the journey is absolutely necessary but if unavoidable to check first with Traffic Wales or local radio or TV, allow plenty of time, take extra care and drive according to the conditions.
