This accessibility statement applies to www.northwalesfire.gov.wales
This website is run by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible is this website?
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- the text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
- most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- live video streams do not have captions
- some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
- you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
- there’s a limit to how far you can magnify the map on our ‘contact us’ page.
Google Maps content doesn't change font size. This is a third party issue and is a limitation related to how Google Maps renders.
WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (Level AA): The labels and road names within the embedded Google Map do not scale when the browser's "text-only zoom" feature is activated. This is because the map information is rendered as image tiles by the third-party provider (Google Maps), over which we have no control.
Workaround: Users requiring larger map text should use the browser's full-page zoom feature {Ctrl} + on Windows, or {Cmd} + on Mac) to enlarge the map and all its content. All essential location and direction information is also provided as fully scalable text adjacent to the map. - Cookie message open and closed states - the cookie message can’t be navigated effectively using a keyboard, by using the ‘Tab’ key you can’t see focus on links or buttons.
This is a third party component, we don't have a great deal of control over its operation.
