When did you last check your smoke alarm?
APOLOGIES: WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OUR ON-LINE ENQUIRY FORM AT THE MOMENT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO US ABOUT A SAFE AND WELL CHECK PLEASE CALL 0800 169 1234
During these unprecedented times, every effort is being made to continue to undertake our core activity - that includes the provision of advice and home safety interventions to our communities.
During the ongoing pandemic we are conducting our safe and well checks differently.
We have made some modifications to our advice whereby we will speak with householders over the telephone first, minimising the amount of time we spend on any home visit.
During this telephone call we will assess the level of risk that exists within your home through the responses to questions that you give during our conversation . Part of this assessment will be whether there are working smoke alarms within the home. If there is a need for smoke alarms to be fitted within the home we ask for your support in installing the alarms yourself or with the help of family, friends or carers. This is in order to reduce the risk of spreading infection between the householder, your family and our staff. Smoke alarms will be delivered free of charge to your home.
If you are unable to fit the smoke alarms yourself and do not have family members or carers who are able to do this for you then in limited circumstances we will install these alarms. This will be carried out by our staff wearing personal protective equipment who will ask that you maintain distancing by not being in the room where the alarms are being installed.
Prior to the visit to install your alarms our staff will complete some Covid-19 screening questions. This is to ascertain whether anyone living at the property is showing symptoms of the infection or are isolating due to travel or contact with other people showing Covid-19 symptoms. This also allows us to comply with Track, Trace, Protect protocols.

Paul Scott, Senior Fire Safety Manager, said: "We have seen the devastation that fires can cause first hand and know that a few simple precautions could have prevented countless tragedies. Don't let tragedy strike your family - stop the fire from starting in the first place."
