Aberdyfi and Tywyn Watch Manager named in the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours list
PostedNorth Wales Fire and Rescue Service are delighted to share the news that Louis Hiatt, Aberdyfi/Tywyn Watch Manager has been named in the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours list.
Louis will receive the British Empire Medal (BEM) which is awarded to individuals in recognition of their meritorious civil or military service.
Louis said: “It has come as a shock and an honour to have been nominated for this award.
“It is wonderful to see that others see the good work we do in our community and try to make a difference to many lives.”
Louis was nominated by the Service for the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours list for his services to the local community both as an On-Call Firefighter and through his volunteering and fundraising activities.
Dawn Docx, Chief Fire Officer said: “I would like to congratulate Louis for this fantastic achievement, it is very well-deserved.
“Louis’ community work above and beyond his duties have improved recruitment and retention of On-Call Firefighters in Aberdyfi and Tywyn which has a considerable effect on the safety and resilience of his community. The two rural stations under his command have some of the highest levels of availability in our Service area, which is a testament to his positive and community-led management approach.
“In addition to this, Louis has shown a great passion for the history of firefighting and engaging with the local community through activities such as restoring a fire engine that was based at Aberdyfi 60 years ago, which now sits proudly on public display at the station, and organising an open day in Aberdyfi Fire Station to celebrate 125 years of firefighting in the village.
“On top of his work with the Service, Louis is widely known in his local community for his fundraising and charitable efforts. This includes being a Trustee of the Neuadd Dyfi, Aberdyfi village hall which hosts many events, such as the Aberdyfi Players Pantomimes, of which Louis has been involved in for many years and acting as Chair for the last 12 where he coordinates over 150 members.
“I would like to thank Louis for his many years of dedication and loyal service not only to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, but also to the people of his community. His story is a true testament to the value that our On-Call Firefighters add to their communities, and I would encourage anyone who is eager for an opportunity to give back to their local community to consider joining the Service as an On-Call Firefighter.”
